Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a comprehensive plan to construct 100,000 houses for homeless and low-income individuals within a year.
Home This initiative, part of the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” (Your Roof, Your Home) program, aims to address the housing needs of approximately 2.2 million families in Punjab who currently lack their own homes.
Under this scheme, families owning plots ranging from one to ten marlas are eligible for interest-free loans up to Rs1.5 million, repayable over seven years with monthly installments of Rs14,000.
The Express Tribune Additionally, the government plans to provide free three-marla residential plots to deserving individuals, further expanding access to affordable housing.
The “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program has already commenced, with thousands of houses under construction across 37 districts in Punjab.
Business Recorder Notably, the “Zahra Homes/Maskan Ravi” project in Kala Shah Kaku was completed in just two and a half months, providing homes to 100 deserving families.
This housing initiative is part of a broader development agenda that includes projects like the “Suthra Punjab” (Clean Punjab) campaign, the “Sarkain Bahal, Punjab Khushhal” (Roads Restored, Prosperous Punjab) program, and the establishment of the first public cancer hospital in Lahore.
The Punjab government is also focusing on improving public transportation by approving the procurement of 657 environment-friendly buses for urban areas and 20,000 electric bikes for students on easy installment plans.
These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its citizens by providing essential services and infrastructure.
